A Blogger With Style: Murat Işık
We talked about his look on fashion with Murat Işık who is the founder of gentlemeter.com, a men’s fashion and lifestyle blog. We advice you to consider his advices on style and shopping.
A Blog For Men: gentlemeter.com
Murat Işık, the agency president of Adquarters is one of the masters in advertising. Now he is also known for his blog on men’s fashion and lifestyle: gentlemeter.com. It doesn’t matter if you are a man or a woman, if you are interested in fashion you should be following this blog.
How did you decide to have a blog?
I have a history in advertising for over 20 years, I earned many awards, created many successful campaigns, but when the online world started to gain power in advertising I wanted to experience online marketing myself. I was already following blogs but the blogs on men’s fashion seemed like they were always missing something. I saw that as an opportunity and Gentlemeter was born.
Which fashion designers do you follow?
John Varvatos, Tom Ford, Ralph Lauren, Sir Paul Smith and Shimon and Ariel Ovadia of Ovadia and Sons are some of my favorite designers. Acne and Rag&Bone are the brands I follow closely. I like Mark McNairy’s shoes and Henry Holland’s sunglasses.
What do you have most in you wardrobe? What would you never wear? What you can not do without?
Shirts, shoes and trousers come first. I have less blazers. I should not be saying never about fashion but I don’t think I will ever be wearing a brown suit or wide trousers. I can not do without my white Converse Jack Purcells, my sartorial suits and shirts, my Burberry trenchcoats and rider. Also my pocket squares are important for me.
Where do you shop?
In New York Jeffreys, Bergdorf Goodman and Barney’s. For the shirts Brooks Brothers and Ralph Lauren. Colette in Paris and Saville Row in London are my favorite addresses. In Istanbul I usually shop from Beymen and Ralph Lauren. I started shopping from W Collection also for the last two seasons.
Who do you think is chic?
Usually if you are in a suit people say you are chic. I wish it was that easy. Being chic is not about the brand, price or model of what you are wearing, it’s about the person himself. If you want me to name someone, I like Nick Wooster’s style who is JC Penny’s creative Director.
If you were to guide men’s fashion what would you like to change?
First I would like to change the common thought “men have nothing to do with fashion, a shirt and pants and you are done”. It does not matter how much you can spend on clothing, with a little care you can choose the right colors, right cuts for you. My other advices can be; don’t wear shiny suits, don’t wear things with giant logos, don’t wear the same color from head to toe, don’t be afraid to mix classic and contemporary.
Were you expecting this success?
Not in such a short time. Right now according to world’s largest blog following site bloglovin.com, Gentlemeter is 6th in UK, 9th in US and 13th in the world amongst men’s fashion blogs.
